Hi family. My ankles have been swollen for about a week. It hurts, but the pain is not too much, it's bearable. Anybody with sickle cell ever experienced something like this? Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your ankles. My son actually suffered with swollen ankles as a result of sicke cell ulcers. Poor circulation will cause that. I know when his kidneys failed the doctors always looked for swollen ankles. Hope you get some relief soon. I will add you to my prayer list. God Bless!

Hello Dewtime,
Right now I'm going through the same thing. I have ulcers on both ankles and it is swollen. It's very painful. But the doctor put a compression bandage around my foot and up to my calves to keep the swelling down. Maybe you should try doing that. And also try putting your feet up above your heart.

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I think I'm developing an ulcer on my left ankle, because it's very tender and painful and an old scar there just opened up and is not healing and it hurts real bad. what do you guys do about the ulcers? Does it ever heal? And Tasha I'm surprised about the compression bandage that you say works for you because my mom wanted to try that but a pharmacist friend said it wasn't advisable and would not help, so I didn't bother asking my doctor about it. But if it really works for you maybe I should try it too. THANKS.
