| SCDAA-ALA
Chapter, Inc. is a non-profit, tax exempt Alabama
Corporation that provides a centralized and coordinating function to a network of seven
independent community-based sickle cell organizations. A key function performed by
SCDAA-ALA Chapter, Inc. is the development of a single budget supporting the operation of
the seven centers. There is also periodic evaluations by state program auditors to
determine efficacy and efficiency of services. Based upon their level and type of service
provision, as well as their advocacy roles the community-based sickle cell centers are the
main resource for locating and maintaining contact with sickle cell patients.
In addition to these community-based programs, there are
four tertiary medical centers: |

| Each is located in predominantly urban
counties and serve both children and adults with sickle cell disease. The medical centers
provide ongoing research, consultation and comprehensive medical care. |

| The Purpose |

Coordinate, arrange, and implement statewide training
seminars, workshops, and presentations for professionals and student health care providers
as well as the general public. |

Extend sickle cell services to all counties in Alabama and
assist in establishing geographical service delivery boundaries for established sickle
cell programs. |

Develop guidelines for creating uniformity in the statewide
delivery of services and the management of statewide programs. |

Enhance and monitor the quality and effectiveness of sickle
cell awareness and educational programs of the state agencies. |

Create a linkage between sickle cell active member
organizations and other health related programs in Alabama. |
 |
Establish a database to provide information about sickle
cell disease statewide. |
