Beverley Francis-Gibson will be stepping down as SCDAA’s fifth President and CEO on November 12, 2021, after serving the organization for over three years. A new president of the organization will be announced after the Thanksgiving holiday. Ashley Clark, MPH, MAHS will assume the role of interim operations manager effective immediately and will work closely with the board chair on day-to-day operations. The member organizations will continue to work closely with board member and president of the SCDAA Executive Leadership Council, Gary Gibson.

Beverley will be remembered for her passion for representing the sickle cell disease community positively during national and international speaking engagements and being directly accessible to individuals living with sickle cell disease. Under her leadership, SCDAA has grown its global prominence with its involvement in many organizations including the Global Alliance of Sickle Cell Disease Organizations and the Rare Anaemias International Network.

During Beverley’s tenure, SCDAA garnered over 40 partnerships with members of the civic, business, and pharmaceutical industry and ensured that the sickle cell community’s voice, perspective, and experiences were fully represented.

“The last three and a half years have been the most challenging and rewarding of my professional career,” said Beverley. “I want to express my appreciation to the individuals living with sickle cell disease, caregivers, patient advocacy organizations, pharma, civic groups and businesses who embraced me personally and worked with SCDAA to make a difference for and on behalf of the sickle cell disease community.”
